The Restaurant

Tartines is located at the heart of the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala,  in a small part of the quaint eighteen century building that once hosted the Archbishop's Palace.

The restaurant has a charming terrace with spectacular views of the Ruins of the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace and the Volcanoes.

Our Chef

Jean-François Desmoulins

I was born in the South of France.  Since 1977 I have been living  in Guatemala, where I opened in1978 , my first restaurant, La Belle Epoque. One year later, we had to expand the restaurant space and it gave birth to the first terrace of the Guatemala City,  Le Rendezvous. In 1983, Le Rendezvous was transferred to a better location in the city and functioned with great success, for ten years.

In 1993, with the same success, I opened  and runed my second restaurant, Jean-François.  This restaurant earned very high praises and hosted prestigious international events like the Gala dinner for then French President Jacques Chirac during his visit to Guatemala in 1998, and the launching of Gaudium  in 2003 by the Spanish wine makers of Marques de Caceres.

In 2005,  I decided to leave Jean-Francois  for a while, and moved with my family to La Antigua Guatemala, were I opened the restaurant Tartines.  I came back to Jean-Francois in 2013 and now I share my time between both restaurants,  to continue sharing my passion for the art of cooking with my friends, long term local and foreign clientel and tourists.  For me is a great pleasure and priviledge to count on fresh produce on the daily basis that inspires my holistics approach to create dishes that combine French cuisine and local flavors.
